A recent report from the Lifesaving Society shows that 1 in 5 people born in Canada are nervous around water and 1 in 3 immigrant Canadians are nervous when around water. But nearly every one of them was planning on being around water this summer. (see: http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/article/836006–drowning-risk-greater-for-immigrants).
The best way to reduce drownings is to teach people to swim and that means we need plenty of access to public swimming pools.
But does Lethbridge have enough pools?
What about other rec facilities? The Skateboard park is run-down, tennis courts are in poor repair, there is NEVER enough ice during hockey season, and indoor soccer fields are at a premium. What recreation facilities do we need in Lethbridge and where would you like to see your investments? Anyone running for City Council should be able to answer your questions and offer their ideas about what is most needed. With respect to swimming pools it is a matter of life and death!
